Hyderabad: Telangana BJPLP leader and Musheerabad MLA Dr K Laxman has been appointed president of Telangana unit of Bharatiya Janata Party. He succeeds G Kishen Reddy, whose term has ended. The BJP Central leadership announced this in New Delhi on Friday while announcing state presidents for five other states.

Though the names of senior leaders like MLC N Ramchander Rao, ex-MLA E Lakshminarayana, N Indrasena Reddy were doing rounds, the party high command finally decided in favour of Laxman. Responding to his appointment, Laxman said the party has good future in the state.

He said Telangana people have given TRS a chance since it was the udyama party. The people will back the BJP in the future. “I started my political career as a student leader and also worked from division level to city and state and also at the national level,” he said.

The experience would certainly help me. I will shape up the party as an unrivaled political force in the state by 2019 elections,” he said. A two-time MLA, Laxman represents the Musheerabad constituency and was deputy leader of the party in the Assembly. A doctorate in science from Osmania University, Laxman got into politics during his student life.

He was student’s union leader of ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarti Parishad) and was elected president of the PG Science College of Osmania University in 1978-80. Laxman was the president of the city BJP for two terms from 1995 to 99 and held important posts in the organisation.

He is presently the floor leader of the party in the Assembly. Laxman will now resign as the floor leader following the one-man one-post principle of the party. Kishan Reddy will be the new floor leader. Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya hailed the decision of the party in appointing Laxman as president of the state unit. He expressed confidence that under the leadership of Laxman, the BJP in Telangana would emerge as a strong force.
