Hyderabad: Those who plan to buy properties in Telangana need not run from pillar to post to file challans at banks and registration offices henceforth. In order to make it a hassle-free process, the State government is planning to launch ‘e-stamps’ challan system from April 11 across the State.

Claiming that the initiative is the first-of-its-kind in the country, Deputy Inspector General, Stamps and Registration, G Madhusudhan Reddy said this would provide a hassle-free platform for the payment of registration fee at a click of mouse. He said, an integrated online payment system connecting almost all the 145 registration offices had been created with the active participation of National Informatics Centre (NIC).

In the new system, people can pay their stamp duty, registration fee and transfer duty in both online and offline modes. Under online mode, people will have to pay money through debit or credit cards on the official website of Telangana Registration and Stamps Department.

In the offline mode, property buyers will have to download the application form from ‘e –challan’ portal and pay amount at any of the designated State Bank of Hyderabad counters in the State. Buyers should submit the bank approved challan in the local registration office to register or transfer their properties, Reddy said.

Those who pay money through online or offline would get a 11-digit code which has to be presented before Registration Office to complete the registration process, according to the official. The government’s intention behind introducing the e-challan system is to reduce the time taken for generating challans. Currently, the process takes a long time due to shortage of staff in the banks as well as in government offices.

The online payment system would also prevent misuse of challans by the staff in the offices. Several cases of such misuse have been reported in the districts in recent times. In the existing process, challans have to be paid in local designated bank only.

The e-challan would also help to instantly distribute money to Gram Panchayats, Mandal Parishads and Zilla Parishads. As per the rules, the registration department should share stamp duty and registration fee with the three local bodies.
