Sulakshya Seva Samithi, a social service organisation started by a group of youngsters with a motto to serve the underprivileged sections, celebrated its third anniversary coinciding with the Telugu New Year on Friday. The event was celebrated at Balasadan, home for the underprivileged girls in Hanamkonda.

Speaking to the media, founder-president of the Samithi Santosh Manduva said that they conducted around 100 events so far. They include donating Rs 4.50 lakh worth benches and desks to three government schools and distribution of about 1,000 blankets to homeless and poor.

Financial assistance to the meritorious students among the poor and the downtrodden sections of the society, planting saplings, distribution clay Ganesh idols freely , felicitation of unsung heroes, movie screenings and heritage tours to orphan children and supporting orphanages also among the activities undertaken by the Samithi.

“Former President the late APJ Abdul Kalam invited us to Raj Bhavan last year and appreciated our work. We will reach out to the more needy people and bring a positive impact in the society in coming years,” Santosh added. Senior Civil Judge and District Legal Services Authority secretary G Neelima attending the third anniversary celebrations said that it was very inspiring to see youngsters striving for the well being of the society at a time when many youth were selfish and self-centred.

She interacted with girls at home and exhorted them to study well and bag lucrative jobs. Later, the judge inaugurated Rs 50, 000 worth water filter -cum cooler donated by an NRI Pakanati Rohini to the home.
