3K Wi-Fi hotspots to dot Hyderabad

The Telangana government has decided to install about 3,000 hotspots in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits. About 200 Wi-Fi hotspots have already been installed at various places, including government offices, parks, shopping malls and libraries and another 100 hotspots would be setup in a week. About five internet service providers have come forward to take up the project.

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to install about 3,000 hotspots in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits. About 200 Wi-Fi hotspots have already been installed at various places, including government offices, parks, shopping malls and libraries and another 100 hotspots would be setup in a week. About five internet service providers have come forward to take up the project.

Besides Wi-Fi hotspots, a convergence portal would also be created for co-ordination between 11 government departments to take up flagship programmes like Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP), double bedroom houses for the urban poor, project for developing the Musi river front. Multiple dashboards would be installed at several places for public to view the progress of the projects on a daily basis.

Speaking to The Hans India, Additional Commissioner (IT) K Surendra Mohan said 3,000 Wi-Fi hotspot works would be shared between the five internet service providers and minimum speed of 5 mbps would be provided to the denizens. The Additional Commissioner said the users can use free internet for first 45 minutes after logging on to the portal provided by the service provider and they would be charged after the prescribed time.

He said the users can use 45 minutes of free service after logging into the portal as guest user. They can also use their personal username and password of that particular network to access the internet.Surendra Mohan said that a good quality internet services would be provided to the denizens which would be monitored through network monitoring system. The internet user data would be secured by using advanced IEEE technology.
