The CITU and its affiliated organisations have demanded the State and Central governments to offer a minimum wage of Rs 15,000 per month to those engaged in implementation of different welfare schemes. Led by the Centre for Indian Trade Unions district general secretary M Chukkaiah, the workers have staged a demonstration in support of their demands at Ekasila Park in Hanamkonda on Sunday. 

Warangal: The CITU and its affiliated organisations have demanded the State and Central governments to offer a minimum wage of Rs 15,000 per month to those engaged in implementation of different welfare schemes. Led by the Centre for Indian Trade Unions district general secretary M Chukkaiah, the workers have staged a demonstration in support of their demands at Ekasila Park in Hanamkonda on Sunday.

Later, they took out a protest rally from the Park to Kaloji Centre. Speaking to presspersons, the CITU leader alleged that the State and Central governments have been exploiting the workers by not offering minimum wages. He condemned the government’s act of cutting down budgetary allocations meant for scheme workers wages.

He wanted facilities like retirement benefit, ESI and PF for the scheme workers. Anganwadi Workers Union state president Nalla Bharathi said Asha and Anganwadi workers and women engaged in the implementation of mid-day meal, Rajiv Vidya Mission, IKP, Gopala Mitra, Bank Mitra and other schemes were doing great service.

Yet they were being paid pittance. The governments should immediately respond to the demands otherwise a nation-wide strike would be taken up, she cautioned. The CITU leaders B Chakrapani, Sk Yakub, V Ramatara, Sumalatha and others were present.
