Nizamabad: Minister for Agriculture Pocharam Srinivas Reddy said that the district administration implemented measures to quench thirst of people with the CRF and non-CRF funds of Rs 33 crore released to the district.

Speaking to the media here on Tuesday, the Minister said that the measures include hiring of 285 bore wells, flushing and deepening of 1155 bore wells. On account of the measures, water struck in 704 bore wells and it was being supplied to 55 villages through tankers, he added.

He said that the District Collector held meetings with the MLAs to resolve the water crisis in 1,645 villages.

With regard to the input subsidy to farmers, Pocharam said that the Centre sanctioned Rs 700 crore, but released only Rs 56 crore. The State government was keen to release the same prior to the commencement of Kharif, he said adding that the State government would release the subsidy out of its own funds even if there was delay on the part of the Center to release the subsidy.

Seeds to cultivate fodder crops would be given on 75 per cent subsidy to only those farmers who have assured irrigation facility. To quench the thirst of cattle, 2000 vats will be set up, he said adding that there was no upper limit to sanction subsidy for this.

The Agriculture Minister said that the State government would pay interest on crop loans availed up to Rs 1 lakh on behalf of the farmers, he said. He announced an incentive of Rs 4 per liter for 2015-16 as incentive to dairy farmers and also announced sanctioning an additional Rs 59 crore for the same.

Under the Stree Nidhi scheme, the Minister announced the sanctioning of Rs 50,000 to purchase milch cattle. The dairy units should become operational by monsoon season.

He asked the Assistant Engineers of the Irrigation Department to complete the agreements for the first phase of the Mission Kakatiya works and ground the works, which he wanted to be accomplished by the month-end. He asked them to complete the works on a war-footing and asked them not to neglect the feeder channel works.

District Collector Dr Yogita Rana, Zilla Parishad Chairman D Raju and others were present on the occasion.
