Telangana Congress going TDP way
The Telangana Congress seems to be going the TDP way. The main opposition party is on the wane as the number of MLAs joining the ruling TRS is on the rise.
Hyderabad: The Telangana Congress seems to be going the TDP way. The main opposition party is on the wane as the number of MLAs joining the ruling TRS is on the rise.
The strength of Congress has already dipped from 21 seats in 2014 elections to 14 in the Telangana Assembly with the Makthal MLA Ch Rammohan Reddy switching loyalties to the ruling party on Wednesday.
Rammohan Reddy, who is the brother of D K Aruna, represents Gadwal constituency in Mahbubnagar district. He joined the TRS despite hectic efforts made by TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy and leader of opposition K Jana Reddy.
Rammohan told the Congress leaders that he would not take any hasty decision but within hours of that he met Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at his camp office and joined the party.
This fast pace development has now triggered speculations in political circles that his sister and senior Congress leader D K Aruna and her close aide and MLC from Mahbubnagar Damodar Reddy would also join TRS soon. Sources said that Aruna has been offered cabinet berth in Telangana Government.
The TRS high command is of the view that if Aruna joins TRS it would help consolidate the party in Mahbubnagar district. The first-time MLA from Alampur assembly constituency in the same district S M Sampath Kumar was also invited to join the ruling party.
However, when contacted by The Hans India, Aruna denied that she was joining the Congress party. She said that she was a hardcore Congress leader and would not migrate to another party.
It may be mentioned here that Congress had already suffered a big blow with four MLAs G Vittal Reddy (Muthole- Adilabad district), K Kanakaiah (Yellandu – Khammam district), K Yadaiah (Chevella – Ranga Reddy district) and D S Redya Naik elected from Dornakal assembly constituency in Warangal district joining TRS.
Congress lost Narayanakhed Assembly in the byelection held after the death of sitting MLA P Kista Reddy. The recent death of Paleru MLA and senior Congress leader R Venkat Reddy left the opposition party in trouble again as the TRS was reluctant to accept the Congress request to declare the election unanimous with its candidate.
