Hyderabad: Come April 21, all new two-wheeler and car owners need not make a visit to the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) offices to for the registration of their vehicles and pay fee for High Security Number Plate (HSNP). They can submit the same at the showroom from where they purchase the vehicle.
The Transport Department has decided to implement the process of registration of vehicles and allotment of numbers at the showroom itself. B Venkateshwarlu, Joint Transport Commissioner said, “To start with the dealers would only collect registration and HSNP fee as fixed by the department.”
The department plans to shift the whole process of registrations of new vehicles at the automobile showrooms in a phased manner and plans to begin the process with the collection of registration and HSNP fee. The new vehicle owners would, however, for the time being make a visit to the RTA office for Registration Certificate.
The department is planning to make the whole process of registration of new vehicles at the showrooms itself as it is successfully implemented in Delhi, Gujarat, Mumbai, Pune and was recently introduced in Chennai. In other cities, the dealer registers the two-wheeler right at the showroom under the dealers point registration system. In Telangana State about 8,000 new vehicles (cars and two-wheelers) are sold per day.
The officials at the Transport Department said that the new system would go a long way in ensuring that vehicle owners do not visit RTA office multiple times. The dealer would complete the formalities required for registration of the vehicle. Dealers, however, are an unhappy lot as they complain that the Transport Department is imposing the burden on the dealers. Rohit Kumar Khotari, secretary, Telangana Auto Hire Purchase Association asked, “Why should the dealers bear the additional burden of collecting fee for no extra cost.
Even now we do temporary registrations without collecting any extra amount. But when there is a typing error, the RTA charges Rs 1,000.” The dealers in the city and from across the 10 districts are planning to meet the Transport Department officials on April 16 to discuss the future course of action.
Transport officials said that the online registration system done at the showrooms proved successful in other cities and helped in eliminating the menace of the agents to a large extent. The automobile showrooms would upload the documents obtained from the customers and submit the vehicle details to the RTA office. The owner would get a temporary registration immediately.
