Hyderabad: Congress Legislature Party leader K Jana Reddy on Thursday demanded that the union government enforce stringent laws for the disqualification of legislators who switched their loyalties to other parties defying the existing anti-defection law.

Stating this at a press conference in the wake of the Congress MLA Ch Rammohan Reddy joining the TRS on Wednesday, Jana Reddy said “switching loyalties by the MLAs to other parties is completely undemocratic.”

He demanded that the Centre amend the anti-defection law and said that the Congress party would cooperate with the NDA for such an action Observing that he had joined Congress from the TDP after quitting as MLA, the Congress leader said all the MLAs, who wanted to joint some other party, should resign to their posts and seek fresh mandate.

Stating that the people would teach a befitting lesson to the turncoats, Jana Reddy said it was unfortunate that the Assembly Speaker S Madhusudhanachary also turned a blind eye to the opposition demand for disqualification of all the members who joined the TRS after the party came to power.
