Hyderabad: Alleging that Vice-Chancellor P Appa Rao was the reason for the death of University of Hyderabad research scholar Rohith Vemula, Congress senior leader and Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao said it was not proper for the Centre to allow Appa Rao to continue as the VC, though the students were opposing him.

Speaking to the media here on Monday after the court trial, Hanumantha Rao demanded that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao pressurise the Centre to change the VC as he was getting support from ABVP, the student wing of BJP. Demanding that the Centre implement the reservations in public sector and judiciary, Hanumantha Rao asked the Centre to assure that Justice Ramana’s statement be made into a reality.

Targeting the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) newly-constituted on Saturday, Hanumantha Rao alleged that the TPCC had made the committee valueless one by appointing 31 members to the coordination committee. Questioning the TPCC as to what was the need to insert a single person in many committees, the senior Congress leader opined that it was not possible to get coordination within the 31-member committee.
