Hysterectomy ops putting govt in bad light: Minister
Health Minister Dr C Lakshma Reddy on Tuesday expressed grief over increasing number of hysterectomy operations meant for removing uterus (from women), though they are needless in villages.
Hyderabad: Health Minister Dr C Lakshma Reddy on Tuesday expressed grief over increasing number of hysterectomy operations meant for removing uterus (from women), though they are needless in villages.
“It is unfortunate that the doctors are indulging in such operations which ought to be done based on requirement,” he said adding that the former should clarify doubts and create awareness among rural women and their family members.
The Health Minister appealed to doctors to refrain from conducting such operations at various hospitals fetching bad name to the government. He was launching a new IPV (Inactivated Pulso Virus Vaccine) as part of Pulse Polio programme at Tourism Plaza here.
The Minister asserted that IPV should be conducted in villages after creating awareness among people to protect their children. Distributing IPV kits to ANMs after administering vaccine to some of the children on the occasion, the Minister directed officials to create awareness on treatment, diseases, medicines, operations, procedures and surgeries.
He also asked the ANMs to put in persistent efforts to eradicate polio problem in rural pockets through 100 per cent immunisation. The Health Minister said future generations should not fall prey to such health hazards.
Stating that Telangana had achieved 85 per cent target of implementing Mission Indra Dhanush programme for health across the State, he exuded confidence that Telangana could achieve cent percent target.
He asked the ANMs to play even better role in eradicating polio and ensure that posterity should not face any health problems. The government was taking steps to upgrade hospitals with all latest equipment, facilities and planning to appoint doctors and staff, he said.
Lakshma Reddy announced that the government hospitals were getting facelift for offering better services to the people.
