Modern tech brought to clean Hussainsagar
In order to speed up the Hussainsagar cleaning process, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K Taraka Rama Rao on Tuesday inaugurated modern Amphibious Long Boom Excavator.
Hyderabad: In order to speed up the Hussainsagar cleaning process, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K Taraka Rama Rao on Tuesday inaugurated modern Amphibious Long Boom Excavator.
This Rs 2.48 crore machine was procured by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority for effective cleaning and collection of waste material and garbage accumulated along the shoreline of the lake.
Speaking on the occasion, MA and UD Minister said that the government has completed 90 per cent of sewerage diversion works and the pending works would be completed in a month.
He said that about Rs 29 crore were allocated for nala desilting and they would be completed before the monsoon. The Minister assured that government would very soon convert the Hussain Sagar into a fresh water lake.
He said that the lake would be cleaned under the Hussain Sagar Lake Catchment Area Improvement Project with assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with an estimated cost of Rs 377 crore.
This equipment would help in improving the air and water quality by reducing the pollution levels around the lake, KTR said. He further said that equipments called Aquatic Weed Harvester-cum-Trash Remover will be used for clearing the floating material, weeds and hyacinth on the surface of water.
The Barge Mounted Aerator System will be procured to control Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) levels by April end at a cost of Rs 3.02 crore.
Commenting on the sewerage treatment plants (STPs), the Minister said, besides five STPs in the city, the State government is planning to set up 10 more STPs to treat 650 million litres day (MLD) sewer water. Currently, the Water Board is managing to clean about 600 MLD sewer water.
