Parakal (Warangal): Bachelors worship Lord Hanuman to invoke his blessings, considering him to be unmarried; but residents of Parakal mandal have been celebrating His marriage for the last four years at the Mallakpet Hanuman Temple in Warangal.

On Friday the celestial wedding of Lord Hanuman with Goddess Suvarchala was performed to mark the Hanuman Jayanti celebrations on a grand-scale. Devotees turned out in large numbers.

According to legend, Lord Hanuman had to marry Suvarchala, the daughter of Sun God, to enable self to learn the last of the ‘Nava Vakarna Pandita Vidyalu’. He was said to have married her so that he could master the ninth ‘vakarna’. The temple priests maintain that both continued to be bachelors even after the marriage.

Annually on the Chaitra Suddha Pournami day people from neighbouring villages like Rayaparti, Nagaram, Narsakkapalli visit the temple with more than 100 years of history, to fulfill their vows to Lord Hanuman. Temple priest Katuri Jagannadhacharyulu said he was elated to decorate Lord Hanuman as bridegroom.
