Hyderabad: The Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) will felicitate Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) for its outstanding contribution to the urban infrastructure sector.

In a letter, HUDCO Chairman and Managing Director Dr M Ravi Kanth invited Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K Taraka Rama Rao to receive the award to be given away as part of the Government of India Enterprise’s 46th Annual Day celebrations in New Delhi.

Expressing happiness at the selection of HMWSSB for the award, KT Rama Rao said that the Telangana government would leverage state-of-the-art technology for designing more innovative initiatives.

He elaborated on the new initiatives like automated billing for bulk consumers through GPRS, developing a grievance redressal mobile app, single window clearance for new tap connections and making rain water harvesting pits mandatory for according new house permissions.

The Urban Development Minister said that Telangana government recognises access to safe drinking water as a fundamental right of the people and has taken up Mission Bhagiratha to this end. He recalled that the State has secured HUDCO’s Award for the Water Grid Scheme apart from winning appreciation from NITI Aayog and Union government. Such recognition works as incentive to take up more such good initiatives, the Minister stated.

The Minister said he would receive the HUDCO Award personally to be presented at Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi on April 25. Senior officials from MAUD department will accompany the Minister to New Delhi.
