Warangal: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the group of emerging economies, BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa).

NIT Director Prof T Srinivasa Rao on Sunday said the MoU among the BRICS nations was aimed at creating ‘BRICS Network University’ (BRICS NU) to explore and share their strengths in pursuit of academic excellence.

The MoU was signed during a meeting of the member nations at Ekterinburg in Russia held from April 7 to 9. Exchange of faculty and students, offering short and long terms courses, including Ph D programmes, were part of the initiative, he revealed.

NIT Warangal was among 12 prestigious institutions of India to sign an MoU with member countries of BRICS as the institute has been known for its competence in computer and information sciences. The computer science and engineering has signed MoUs with various institutions in the past, Prof Srinivasa Rao added.

The BRICS MoU helps faculty exchange programmes on which the institute has laid focus now. IT enables the faculty of NIT to get exposure at international level while the students could derive benefit from visits of foreign faculty, he explained. NIT Warangal has already got professors from Australian and American universities, he said.
