431 schools may face closure for want of teachers
The future of over 5000 students in 431 schools hangs in the balance as the State government has failed to appoint teachers in these schools after transferring the teachers working in remote areas to urban areas and rationalisation of teachers services.
Adilabad: The future of over 5000 students in 431 schools hangs in the balance as the State government has failed to appoint teachers in these schools after transferring the teachers working in remote areas to urban areas and rationalisation of teachers’ services. It has been ages since making the transfer of teachers and rationalisation of their services but not even a single teacher was appointed in 431 schools.

The students are daily coming to school and returning home for want of teachers and in respect of some schools, the doors remain locked. Moreover, the government is closing down schools for want of students at some places but failed to appoint teachers in spite of having students.
Speaking to The Hans India here on Wednesday, the UTF leader Venkat said that the government schools were being closed down because of indifference and negligence on the part of the State government. He demanded the government to amend its style of functioning at least now and ensure that the schools remain open.
Highlighting the woes of students in zero-teacher schools in Utnoor, Kerameri, Bejjuru, Sirpur-T and Asifabad Mandals, Students’ Union leaders Bhaskar and Mahesh said that the students have been failing in examinations due to the absence of teachers in many schools. Appointments have not been made in these schools, they added.
On the one hand, the State government claimed to be strengthening the education system and on the other, it has been doing the quite the opposite, they lamented. Besides the absence of teachers in schools, there were allegations that there were several irregularities in the implementation of the mid-day meals scheme, the student union leaders said.
Appointment of educational volunteers in December was not helpful as the syllabus could not be completed on time, they said. The educational volunteers appointed in remote areas were not willing to attend schools, they pointed out. The parents of students in zero-teacher schools are worrying about their wards’ future as there is no clarity in appointing teachers to these schools, they said.
Talking to The Hans India, District Educational Officer Satyanarayana Reddy said that he would take up the issue of the zero-teacher schools with the government and ensure that teachers’ were appointed immediately.
