Mahbubnagar: With an aim to irrigating 20 lakh acres in Mahbubngar and Ranga Reddy districts, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Friday inaugurated the Palamuru Ranga Reddy Lift irrigation (PRRLI) pylon marking the beginning of the project at Narlapur village in Kollapur mandal.

More than 20 lakh acres of land is expected to be irrigated under PRRLI and other projects in the district in the next 5 years. While talking on the occasion, the minister said that the state government was determined to complete all the pending and existing projects in Mahbubnagar.

“Despite Mahbubnagar having vast water resources like Krishna and Tungabhadra, it had to face drought and migration, because of lack of commitment by the earlier governments in united AP.

After formation of Telangana, we have given the highest priority to the district and want to complete the PRRLI project in record time of two years and provide irrigation water to 1 lakh acres in each constituency,” said the Irrigation Minister.

After the inauguration of the pylon at Narlapur, enroute to Gopalapeta, the minister laid foundation stone for Yedula reservoir on the outskirts of Yedula village.

The minister expressed confidence that after completion of this mammoth project, Mahbub nagar would never face drought or famine in the future.

“Once completion of this project, I am confident that there will be no drought and no migration in the district. We will make Mahbubnagar, the green belt of Telangana,” said the Minister.

The irrigation minister also promised to revive the Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme (RDS) project to provide irrigation water to more than 87.5 lakh acres under the scheme.

“For increasing the height of RDS Dam and for completion of repairs on the canals, we are already in talks with Karnataka government and have set a target of 50 days to complete the works,” he said.

While talking on the redesigning of the PRRLI project, the minister said that it was only aimed at providing irrigation water to all regions in the district.

“Instead of lifting water from Kalwakurty Lift irrigation Project to Dindi Project, we have redesigned PRRLI to lift the same from Narlapur reserviour.

With this we are not only providing water to Dindi but en route it will also help irrigate 35,000 acres of land under Achempeta constituency,” informed the minister.
