Hyderabad: After a gap of nearly 38 years, new districts would be coming up for administrative convenience in Telangana. The State government shortlisted nearly 20 major municipalities and revenue divisions to carve them out as new districts.
A day after Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao declared that 14 or 15 new districts would start functioning by August 15 or Dasara this year, State Revenue and CCLA (Chief Commissioner Land Administration) Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) hastened the official process for creating the new districts.
The CCLA officials told The Hans India that major urban areas were identified to upgrade them as new districts. The Suryapet revenue division would be carved out from Nalgonda district and in Adilabad district Mancherial and Bellampalli municipalities were shortlisted as new districts. The two urban areas were equipped with basic infrastructure facilities for running the district head offices.
The temple town of Bhadrachalam would be getting new district status in Khammam district, in Medak district, the government aimed Sangareddy and Siddipet districts and in Mahbubnagar district, Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool and Gadwal towns were identified. Among the three, two towns would be carved out from Mahbubnagar.
Jangaon and Bhupalpalli (Acharya Jayashankar district) in Warangal, Jagtial, Siricilla and Huzurabad in Karimnagar district, Vikarabad and Tandur in Ranga Reddy district and Bodhan and Nizamabad Urban were also identified for the purpose. Under the Greater Hyderabad limits the government proposed to create five districts.
Hyderabad Central (Nampally, Khairatabad, Goshamahal, Amberpet and Musheerabad), Charminar (Charminar, Yakatpura, Chandrayan Gutta, Bhahadurpura, Karvan and Maheswaram), Golkonda (Jubille Hills, Kukatpally, Patancheru, Serilingampally and Quthbullapur), Hyderabad East (District Head Quarter - Bhuvanagiri) - Bhuvanagiri, Uppal, LB Nagar, Ibrahimpatnam and Malakpet and Secunderabad district (Secunderabad, Cantonment, Sanathnagar, Malkajgiri and Medchal) would be constituted.
The revenue officials said that the new districts would be created under Andhra Pradesh District Formation Act -1974, which was adopted by Telangana recently. “The Act provides for the formation of districts in Telangana and for the alteration of areas or boundaries of districts in the interests of better administration and development of the areas comprised there in and for matters connected therewith,” the revenue officials said.
They said that the Chief Minister had already discussed the proposals prepared by the Committee headed by Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma and added that a final decision would be taken after holding a public hearing on the creation of districts shortly.
