Warangal: The speakers at a round table meeting on the issues of tenant farmers have demanded the State government to issue loan eligibility cards to all the tenant farmers.

The meeting was organised by the district Koulu Rythu Sangham. The association state president P Ramesh, its district leaders G Kondal Reddy and T Venkat Reddy, leaders of different organisations S Sambaiah, Martha Rajaiah, M Sammi Reddy, Julius Caesar, K Shivaji, P Bhumaiah, P Eashwar Singh, A Venkatrajam and others addressed the meeting.

The leaders alleged that the government has failed to identify the suicides by tenant farmers. There were about 12 lakh tenant farmers in the State but in 2015 loan eligibility cards were issued to 44,000 farmers and loans were given to 8,000 farmers only.

In 2016 the process of renewing the cards and issuing new cards to the farmers has not taken place yet. Since the TRS government came to power about 2100 farmers have committed suicides due to crop loss and debt burden and half of them were tenant farmers. The government failed to provide the ex-gratia of Rs 6 lakhs promised to the families of the deceased farmers.

Nine demands were proposed at the meeting and were approved by the leaders. Immediate steps to issue the cards and loans to all tenant farmers, making the agriculture and revenue officials accountable for the purpose, waiving of loans of all tenant farmers in drought hit areas were among the demands. Leaders of various Left wing organisations, A Kumar, B Chakrapani, P Babu, D Tirupathi, K Ramesh, M Nagender and others were present.
