Mission Bhagiratha works gain pace in Nizamabad
Works related to Mission Bhagiratha, a dream project of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, are going on at a brisk pace in the district. The appointment of Balkonda MLA Vemula Prashanth Reddy as Vice-Chairman of the Telangana Drinking Water Supply Corporation (TDWSC), has given an added impetus to the execution of the project , taken up at a cost of Rs 2,670 crore.
Nizamabad: Works related to Mission Bhagiratha, a dream project of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, are going on at a brisk pace in the district. The appointment of Balkonda MLA Vemula Prashanth Reddy as Vice-Chairman of the Telangana Drinking Water Supply Corporation (TDWSC), has given an added impetus to the execution of the project , taken up at a cost of Rs 2,670 crore.
The project is envisaged to supply protected water to all houses at the rate of 100 litres for each individual per day. As many as 1,645 villages in 712 Panchayats with a population of more than 25 lakh will get benefited with the completion of Mission Bhagiratha which intends to provide safe drinking water to all households at the rate of 100 litres per head.
While safe drinking water will be supplied to Balkonda, Armoor, Nizamabad Rural and Kamareddy Assembly constituencies in the district from the Sriram Sagar Project under the Mission Bhagiratha scheme, the other Assembly segments, including Banswada, Jukkal, Yellareddy and Bodhan segments, would be supplied water from the Singur project in Medak.
The Mission Bhagiratha works taken up in the backwaters of the Sriram Sagar Project at Jalalpur in Balkonda mandal are progressing well. Construction of an intake well, a pumping house and three mega plants with a total capacity of 14 crore litres of water per day, were taken up as part of the project.
The works of treatment plants with a capacity of six crore- litres of water per day at Argul and four crore -litres capacity plants at Indalwai and Mallanna Gutta are also underway. The three treatment plants, constructed in the region with a capacity of three crore- litres each, will also be supplied water from the intake well at Jalalpur. A sum of Rs 1,370 crore is being spent for the development of infrastructure under the Mission Bhagiratha and nearly 860 villages spreading over 20 mandals will get water from the intake well at Jalalpur.
Initially, water will be supplied to 121 villages. 144 overhead tanks have been constructed in 45 of the 121 villages. Construction of water tanks will be taken up in other villages as well. The Sarpanch of each village will oversee the provision of individual tap connections to all the houses as per the plan evolved by the Rural Water Supply Department.
