Hyderabad: Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said that piped gas supply in Hyderabad would be a reality by 2019.

Speaking to the media after holding a review meeting with the officials of oil companies on Saturday, Dattatreya said that the second phase of works for the supply of piped gas would begin soon.

“The laying of pipelines will be taken up from Qutubullahpur to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) Kukatpally. Under the first phase, the laying of lines from Shamirpet to Qutubullahpur has been completed and 1,100 households are already being supplied with cooking gas,” said the minister.

Dattatreya said all households in Hyderabad would get piped gas supply by the end of the financial year 2018-19. He also said that three ‘gas cylinder bottling stations’ were being established in Telangana.

“Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) will establish a bottling station in Karimnagar in March 2018. Similarly, two bottling stations at Cherlapally would be constructed by Indian Oil and Bharat Petroleum at a cost of Rs. 31 Crore and Rs. 50 crore respectively,” he said.

The minister exuded confidence that within the next ten years, there would not be any more problems of shortage of gas in Telangana.
