Luxettipet (Adilabad): The Itikyal Lake in Adilabad district of Nizam era is all set to regain its lost glory as it was selected for restoration in the second phase of Mission Kakatiya. As part of the restoration project, a mini-tank bund will also be constructed at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore. The storage capacity of the tank, which once provided irrigation facility to hundreds of acres in Luxettipet and Itikyal villages, has declined drastically due to accumulation of silt and encroachments.

The inlet and outlet channels of the tank are in ruins. Hence, it was decided to take up the restoration of the tank and beautification of its surroundings as part of the second phase of Mission Kakatiya. Minister for Irrigation T Harish Rao will launch the tank restoration works on Monday.

Speaking to The Hans India, Deputy Engineer of Irrigation Satyanarayana said the tank bund, which was 780 metres in length and 3 metres wide, would be extended as part of the mini-tank bund project.

A garden and a children’s park would be developed at the place and a ghat would also be constructed at the tank for immersion of ‘Batukammas’. He said that the ayacut of the tank would also increase with its development. Hailing the move to build a mini-tank bund, Itikyal Sarpanch T Kantaiah said.
