Speedsters beware of Traffic Interceptor!
The traffic interceptor vehicle introduced in Nalgonda district is functioning effectively in controlling the speeding vehicles and other traffic violations. The Rs 30 lakh worth vehicle was introduced in the district in June 2015, to monitor traffic on the highways passing through the district.

After introducing the interceptor in the district, the number of cases booked for high speed and drunk driving on highways was drastically reduced. According to official information, during the one year, the interceptor vehicle has booked 8,904 cases and imposed a penalty of Rs 33.57 lakh on speeding vehicles on various highways passing through the district.
Also, it booked 2,554 cases of drunk driving and imposed a penalty of Rs 6.96 lakh. In Nalgonda district, NH-65 starts from Kothagudem of Choutuppal Mandal and ends at Ramapuram of Kodad Mandal. The NH-163 extends from Kondamadugu of Bibinagar Mandal to Pembarthi of Aler mandal while the State highway, SH-2 runs from Narketpally to Vadapally.
Another State highway SH-19 starts at Mall and ends at Nagarjuna Sagar. As per the schedule prepared by the district transport record bureau (DTRB), the vehicle, along with one head constable and a constable, will be debuted at respective police limits located along the highway concerned.
The interceptor will identify the speed of vehicles 300 metres away from its location on either side, with the help of the night vision-enabled laser gun. This is connected to a computer with printer facility. If the speed of any vehicle crosses 80 KMPH, the police under the supervision of the sub-inspector of the concerned police station stop the vehicle under IPC 189/1 section and impose the penalty ranging from Rs 400 to Rs 4,000.
Apart from that, the interceptor vehicle also had a breath analyser to check drunk driving. A computer for recording crime details and a first-aid kit are also present in the vehicle. District additional superintendent of police (Admin) Gangaram, who monitors the interceptor regularly, informed that the vehicle is doing a good job in controlling the speeding vehicles on national and state highways, passing through the district.
Also, the breath analyser in the vehicle is helping in identifying and nabbing drunken drivers to avoid accidents on highways.
