Continental Hospitals doctors treat rare tumour
Doctors of Continental Hospitals diagnosed a rare tumour and treated a patient, M Ramulu (60), successfully. Ramulu was incorrectly diagnosed by a reputed institution in the city as suffering from ‘pancreatic pseudocyst’.
Hyderabad: Doctors of Continental Hospitals diagnosed a rare tumour and treated a patient, M Ramulu (60), successfully. Ramulu was incorrectly diagnosed by a reputed institution in the city as suffering from ‘pancreatic pseudocyst’.
The team of doctors who attended to Ramulu found that he was suffering from a tumour for the past 10 years and could not get proper treatment due to a constant misdiagnosis. Due to abdominal pain and gastrointestinal bleeding, symptoms of the tumour,
he approached Continental Hospitals and met Dr Santosh Kumar Enaganti, Senior Consultant Medical Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist, who after initial diagnosis referred the case to Dr Vijay Ramachandran, Consultant Surgical Gastroenterologist and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon.
Using superior technology and sophisticated diagnostic tools, the patient was diagnosed to have a huge tumor of the size 25 cm x 25 cm. The case was quite a complicated one owing to the extreme vascularity of the tumour.
However, Dr Ramachandran performed a major En Bloc Resection of the tumour followed by Reconstruction. The entire surgery lasted for about 6 hours.
Despite the magnitude of the surgery, the patient made a smooth recovery without any sort of complications. Histopathology had revealed that it was a rare tumour with fewer than 100 such cases reported worldwide.
