Plans to popularise Buddha Maha stupa
Efforts are on to develop Nelakondapalli, the birthplace of renowned saint composer Bhakta Ramadasu, Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageswar Rao said. Launching the renovation works of Balasamudram tank and Mini Tank Bund with an outlay of Rs 8.75 crore at Mujjugudem village near Nelakondapalli Mandal on Saturday also happens to be Buddha Jayanti.
Khammam: Efforts are on to develop Nelakondapalli, the birthplace of renowned saint composer Bhakta Ramadasu, Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageswar Rao said. Launching the renovation works of Balasamudram tank and Mini Tank Bund with an outlay of Rs 8.75 crore at Mujjugudem village near Nelakondapalli Mandal on Saturday also happens to be Buddha Jayanti, the minister said that the Buddha Maha Stupa built 350 BC is ancient than the Amaravati stupa.
“The Buddha stupa located near Nelakondapalli which was built before 350 BC is older than the one at Amaravati according to an archaeological department. The stupa, one of the proud possessions of the country will be developed into a tourism spot,” he said, pointing to the development of the Balasamudram tank and the upcoming Mini Tank Bund.
A double road with central lighting system will come between Nelakondapalli and Balasamudram tank, he added. The government will popularise the greatness of the stupa inducing even the likes of Dalai Lama to pay a visit to the site, Tummala said. He said that a tourism package that includes Buddha stupa, Lakkaram tank in Khammam, Kinnerasani, Bhadrachalam and Parnasala is on the anvil to highlight Khammam district on the tourism map.
MLC Balasani Laxminarayana, Zilla Parishad Chairperson G Kavitha, former MLC Portal Nageswar Rao, TRS district president Budan Baig and former legislator Kondabala Koteswar Rao were among others present. At another programme at Pindiprolu village under Tirumalayapalem Mandal, the Minister assured the locals that as many as 73 Tandas will be provided with all basic amenities.
The Minister said that water needs of people in the mandal will be addressed by completing the Bhakta Ramadasu Irrigation Project as early possible.
