RWAs intensify efforts to stop road blockade
With just over ten days to go for the Gough Road closure, Residential Welfare Associations (RWA) have been knocking on all doors to defer the blockade. The Army has put up boards in several places that the Gough Road would be closed from June 1, 2016.

Representatives of RWA’s have been calling on MP’s, MLA’s and Local Military Authorities and have in the last two weeks even sent representations to the Defence Ministry. The Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar would be visiting the Secunderabad Cantonment later this week.
On Saturday, members of Open Secunderabad Cantonment All Roads (OSCAR) met MLA R Krishnaiah MLA and he in turn sought the intervention of Parliamentarian Malla Reddy in the issue. OSCAR has been maintaining that all roads in the Secunderabad cantonment should be reopened. The members have also decided to meet Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao, soon.
In November last year, the State Government and the Army had come to an understanding that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) would construct two alternate roads, one from Safilguda railway gate to Entrenchment Road and the other from the Safilguda railway gate to the over bridge of Ramakrishnapuram road. But, apart from a few surveys, work has not started yet.
Meanwhile, RWAs from the north- eastern part have been calling for re-opening of the 12 roads that were closed over the last few years. Their contention is that the alternate roads would not help people residing in Yapral and beyond.
The residents of the cantonment are now pinning all their hopes on the Defence Minister to defer the closure of Gough Road one more time. It may be recalled that last year the road- closure was deferred by six months on the condition that the civic body would construct alternate roads.
According to sources, the file pertaining to the alternate roads is with the Chief Minister and once a decision on the compensation to be paid to the Army is taken, work would begin.
