Hyderabad: Siddapur village in Kothur mandal of Mahbubnagar district is all set to get a facelift with Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu speeding up his plan to develop it. Mahesh’s wife Namrata Shirodkar on Monday called on Panchayat Raj Minister Jupally Krishna Rao at Secretariat here and discussed in the meeting about the village development plans with all modern facilities.

Shadnagar MLA Anjaiah and Mahbubnagar District Collector T K Sridevi attended the meeting. Later, Namratha told reporters that the Minister had promised all support for developing Siddapur into a model village.

They discussed several issues including deprival of facilities like drinking water, individual toilets, power supply and road facility. Out of the 460 houses in the village, 442 have no toilets forcing them to go for open defecation. People need 60,000 litre capacity overhead tank and a dilapidated sub-station needs immediate repairs to avoid erratic power supply.

Later, the Minister directed the collector to take immediate measures to supply uninterrupted power and construction of toilets under IHHL scheme. The government plans to transform the villages with better facilities as per the dreams of Mahatma Gandhi, the Minister maintained.

It is pertinent to note that Namrata Shirodkar had in April last conducted a health camp in the same village and vowed to conduct the same once in three months, besides resolving all the issues in a phased manner. The meeting assumes significance as her actor husband promised to adopt and develop Siddapur after his film Srimanthudu had a similar content. Mahesh Babu agreed to adopt Siddapur on a phone call by IT Minister KT Rama Rao.

Namrata later said they were coming up with a plan in a few days to make Siddapur into a smart village. Recently, she had visited the village and interacted with people, who submitted a memorandum about the issues faced by them. It may be recalled that Mahesh Babu had adopted Burripalem, his ancestral village near Tenali, under the ‘Smart Village - Smart Ward’ programme launched by the Andhra Pradesh government.
