Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao said the Palamuru- Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Project, the biggest irrigation project in Telangana after the achievement of Statehood, should be completed even before its deadline of two-and-a-half years.

Participating in a high-level review meeting on the project along with Health Minister Dr C Lakshma Reddy, Harish Rao said that the government will complete the prestigious project ahead of its deadline and transform the parched lands of Mahabubnagar district into a land of greenery.

The Minister directed the officials to work in tandem with other departments and contractors to complete the project as per schedule. “Unless we work together like a family, the project cannot be completed on time nor can we distribute irrigation waters to crops,” he said. Harish Rao asked the officials to expedite the land pooling for the project and begin the works related to canals and bunds on a priority basis.

“Contract organisations, engineering and other departments should coordinate with one another for speedy completion of the Palamur project to bring under ayacut 10 lakh acres of land and double it in five years,” he said.

Calling for the pace of works to pick up, Harish Rao said that all efforts would be made to complete all the other pending projects as well, in line with the directive of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.

Chief Irrigation Engineer S K Joshi, Engineer-in- Chief Muralidhar Rao, Mahabubnagar Collector Sridevi, Irrigation OSD Sridhar Rao and others were present.
