California Bay Area: Panchayat Raj and IT Minister K Taraka Rama Rao has said that Telangana was ahead of other States of India in tapping the renewable energy. According to Indian National Solar Policy, at least 10 per cent of the total power produced should be from renewable sources, but he said Telangana, which targets to produce 24,000 mw of power in the next five years through renewable energy sources, was already producing 3000 mw of solar power.

KTR was interacting with California Governor Edmond Jerry Brown on Thursday. He explained to the Governor the industrial and IT policies of the Government of Telangana. The State Minister inked several pacts with partners on mutual understanding in energy sector in the presence of the Governor at the Clean Energy Ministerial Conference held in California. Representatives from 13 provinces attended the conference, including the province of Telangana from India.

Referring to drought in California and Telangana, KTR said as far as water harvesting in Telangana was concerned the Mission Kakatiya was a significant project. Besides, the State government ushered several policy changes like permission refusal to buildings without water harvesting structures. "Activities related to rainwater harvesting structures are going on very well. During the past two years, the State of Telangana achieved remarkable progress," he added.

The Telangana issues got extensive publicity during his last US visit and the people’s response to the issues this year was also overwhelming. The State of Telangana left its mark at the national level as a progressive State, he said and sounded confident that the State would shine brighter in future.

Earlier, he interacted with software giant Sales Force corporate delegation at its headquarters in San Francisco. In the afternoon, he interacted with Linkedin Executive Chairman Reid Hoffman and enquired about its expansion plans in India and sought priority to Telangana in the expansion programme. He also extended an invitation to Hoffman to visit Hyderabad. Reid Hoffman assured the IT Minister to lead a delegation to Hyderabad next year.
