A seventeen member Parliamentary Standing Committee on Water Resources would arrive in Hyderabad on Saturday to to review the progress of the irrigation projects in Telangana State. The projects are taken up under Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP). 

Hyderabad: A seventeen member Parliamentary Standing Committee on Water Resources would arrive in Hyderabad on Saturday to to review the progress of the irrigation projects in Telangana State. The projects are taken up under Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP).

The Committee also examine encroachment of water bodies in the State and other issues. State Irrigation and Command Area Development Commissioner G Malsur, said in a press release on Friday, said the committee headed by MP Hukum Singh, would hold discussions with the officials of the Union Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Central Water Commission and State government officials and review the progress of the irrigation projects.

Malsur said as many as 16 projects were taken up in 1996-97 in Telangana region in the then united Andhra Pradesh. However, only five out of the total project taken up had so far been completed and 11 projects were at different stages of completion, he added.

He said the committee would discuss with officials the progress made on Devadula, SRSP flood canal, second phase of SRSP and Komaram Bheem and other irrigation projects. Besides, the committee would take stock of the current status of the ongoing projects and discuss the steps needed for early completion of the projects, cooperation from the Centre and funds for the projects, Karimnagar MP Vinod Kumar would also take part in the meeting.

Later in the afternoon the committee would also meet the officials of Krishan River Manageemnt Board (KRMB). The committee would hold discussion with the project authorities of Sarpanpallu Project about the status of the project, and works undertaken in connection within the scope of Repair, Renovation and Restoration (RRR) Scheme.

The meeting would be attended by Special Chief Secretary S K Joshi, Engineering-in-Chief Muralidhar Rao, Water Commission officials and Irrigation officials on Special Duty Officer Sridhar Rao Des Pandey.
