Hyderabad: As many as 5 lakh people suffering from one or other respiratory ailment are expected to arrive in Hyderabad from several places not only in the country but also abroad to receive fish medicine. The Bathini family dispense fish medicine for two days from Wednesday at Exhibition Grounds at Nampally in city. It is the practice to distribute fish medicine free since 1845. It is “Mrugashira Prasada Muni.”
Some patients have arrived in the city not only several State in th country but also from Bhutan and Nepal. Shyam Kumar P K, a 60 year old asthma patient from Bhavaninagar village in Nepal, said he had been suffering from the disease for the past 10 years. He had visited several hospitals in India and also in Nepal. Shyam Kumar said he had learnt of the fish medicine from people in an adjoining village and travelled all the way from Nepal to Hyderabad to receive the fish medicine.

One of other member of a family had been receiving medicine regularly for respiratory ailment for the last 25 years. He came to know of the fish medicine from the same family members, said Kaphil Khan, a resident of Delhi. The fish medicine is the only medicine available cure the illness, said Bharath Bhagwan Singh, who came to Hyderabad with six others from neighbouring Bhutan.
B Harinath Goud, a senior member of the Bathini family, told The Hans India that about 50 members from his family members had been taking part the fish medicine preparation and more than 1,100 volunteers would distribute it from 8 am on Wednesday. He said that for the first the time they had increased the fish medicine dose from 3 to 4 on yearly basis, keeping in view of increased pollution levels.
Harinath said after consuming the first dose of fish medicine at the Exhibitions grounds and they would provide another six small doses of fish medicine which should be consumed at home on the 15th day, 30th day and 45th day depending on the severity of the problem. He said mostly people from north India suffer from respiratory ailments due to the cool weather conditions.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad District Collector and the police, Roads and Buildings, Water Board, Electricity Board, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Road Transport Authority (RTA) made all arrangements. About 1,500 police personel have been deployed to prevent any untoward incident. As many as 35 CCTV cameras have been installed at different locations across the Exhibition grounds. Central zone DCP Kamalasan Reddy appealed to the citizens of Hyderabad to take medicine after 2 pm to avoid stampede like situation
The GHMC has provided emergency medical camps, temporary toilets, and other facilities. The Hyderabad Collectorate authorities have installed about 40 token counters and 30 fish counters for the patients. The HMWS&SB would supply the drinking water to the visitors for next two days.
