Kodad (Nalgonda): To overcome the stiff competition from corporate and private sector, the teaching staff of government schools in Nalgonda district are undertaking a novel campaign to attract students. They are holding a door-to-door campaign in the town under the Badi Bata programme. The Badi Bata campaign has got all the ingredients of electioneering of a political party like banners, pamphlets and other paraphernalia to attract the attention of students and their parents.

Highlighting the benefits of studying in the government schools, the teaching staff urge parents to enroll their children in the institutions which offer free and quality education. The campaigners arrive with a bang while beating the drums. and vermillion is being applied on the forehead of women as part of the campaign. All this resembles a ceremonial invitation for holy events.

Speaking to The Hans India, Government High School for Boys headmaster Muttavarapu Rama Rao said ``Our school has been achieving good results in the SSC examinations for the past five years. The school stood top in the division in SSC exams. Our students also got admission in IIIT, besides excelling in sports and extracurricular activities. We are also giving coaching to students for the National Merit Scholarship. The educational standards of the school are on par with corporate institutions.’’

Mandal Education Officer Gopati Gopaiah said ``English medium is introduced in government schools in Kodad. Free textbooks and uniforms are distributed to students. The mid-day meal scheme is also being implemented in the schools effectively. Parents need not hesitate to admit their children in the schools, which are faring on par with private educational institutions. The schools are really a boon to students hailing from economically backward sections.’’
