Justice C V Nagarjuna Reddy of the High Court at Hyderabad on Friday granted time to the government of Telangana to comply with its order by July 1 or face a punishment under the Contempt of Courts Act.

The contemnors are Malkajgiri Revenue Divisional Officer Prabhakar Reddy and senior IAS officer B R Meena. The judge is dealing with a contempt case filed by Society for Tribal Dalit Minorities and Weaker Sections which has been fighting for allotment of land in Chengicherla near Ghatkesar since 2013.

According to the petitioner society, it had filed a writ petition for the stated land and the writ petition was allowed by an order on December 24, 2013.

Repeated contempt cases had yet not yielded the required result. The petitioner pointed out that the government had repeatedly assured the court of its intent to implement the order, but had failed to do so. The judge finally granted time to the government till July 1.
