Nizamabad: A special drive led by the in-charge Commissioner Durga Parimala was undertaken to check motor vehicles at different junctions in the town was undertaken on Tuesday. Many motor vehicles inspectors of the Transport Department intercepted vehicles at busy junctions and inspected them. They examined whether the drivers had valid licenses or not and the vehicles had fitness certificates. The inspection of vehicles took place for an hour from 8 AM to 9 AM and 60 buses were inspected. Two buses which did not have fitness certificates were seized.

The in-charge Deputy Commissioner said that the school buses should have fitness certificates and warned that stringent action would be taken against the managements of educational institutions if they fail to get fitness certificates for their vehicles and nobody would be spared. The buses should be in good condition to ferry school children, she added. She said that they would identify the buses which do not have fitness certificates and penalise the school authorities if the buses were in bad shape.

Deputy Commissioner Parimala said that the managements of schools should not comprise on the safety of the school children. Many students in the past have lost their lives travelling in buses which were unfit for plying and in some cases, the cleaners used to drive the buses without a valid license, she lamented. She said such fake drivfers were taken into custody and cases wer booked against them.

She said that there were 1,000 school buses in the district. She said that such special drives would be undertaken every day in Bodhan, Banswada, Kamareddy and Armoor mandals.
