Hyderabad: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) would stage dharnas in front of offices of Mandal Education Officers (MEO), District Educational Officers (DEO) and Directorate of School Education in Hyderabad on June 16, demanding filling up of vacant posts.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, ABVP State secretary Ayyappa expressed concern over delay in implementing the KG to PG free education scheme, absence of basic amenities in 90 per cent of the Government schools, not filling the MEO and Deputy EO posts and pointed out that these delays have been adversely impacting the quality of education.

He demanded expeditious filling of 430 MEO posts, 38 Deputy EO posts, 500 gazetted head master posts and all the vacant DIET lecturer posts. The ABVP activists would stage dharna at DVEO and RIO offices on June 18 and lay siege to education minister’s quarters on June 20 in support of its demands.

He lamented that the government had supplied computers to 2800 schools without appointing instructors and suggested that the school education calendar should be prepared in a foolproof manner. "Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari, who promised that the DSC exams would be held by June, is keeping mum on the issue," said Ayyappa.

He alleged that there was conspiracy to scale down the number of posts to be filled through the DSC from 25,000 to a mere 10,000. Ayyappa accused the government of turning a blind eye to the indiscriminate fee-hike by the corporate and private schools.

“The DEOs and RIOs are allegedly in cohorts with the managements of schools and washing their hands off the matter by merely conducting raids on small schools,” said Ayyappa. He demanded raids on corporate and private schools which collect large sums as tuition fee from students.

Of the 50,000 school buses in the state, certifying only 10,931 as being fit bears testimony to the lack of supervision by officials, said Ayyappa.

He wanted the government to check the looting of students by private schools like Velocity, Srichaitanya and Narayana which were collecting huge amounts as fees. He demanded the government to fill the 4500 vacant lecturer posts in government colleges.
