Says Congress leaders are joining the TRS to take part in the myriad development programmes launched by the State government

Medak: Failing to set right its own home, the Congress was resorting to mudslinging on the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on defections, said Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao.Participating in a programme in Medak district on Thursday, Harish Rao condemned the comments of All India Congress Committee (AICC) leader Digvijay Singh against the ruling party in Telangana.

“The Congress leaders are afraid of losing their existence in Telangana and indulging in meaningless attack on the ruling party. Many leaders from other parties are joining the TRS for the sake of development of the State with an aim to transform it into a golden Telangana,” he said. “Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is giving top priority to welfare schemes and development activities in the State,” he claimed.

Harish Rao slammed the Opposition parties for trying to stall development in the State. But the people were not ready to accept the Congress’ vicious campaigning against the Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues, he charged. He also came down heavily on the Congress for trying to take political mileage out of its own helplessness in stopping its leaders from joining the TRS.

He sought to know whether defections had not taken place during former Chief Minister late YS Rajasekhar Reddy, who poached some TRS legislators during his tenure as the Chief Minister. Meanwhile, at Mission Kakatiya programme in Karimnagar, Harish Rao accused the previous government of ignoring the development of Rajarajeshwara Swamy temple in Vemulawada and said the TRS government was spending adequate funds for the purpose.

The TRS government would develop Gandi Cheruvu in the area by spending Rs 62 crore to bring under ayacut one lakh acres through Yellampally Project, he said adding that Chief Minister would launch the scheme soon. Harish Rao also slammed Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for hatching a conspiracy against the Telangana projects.

The Telugu Desam Party government was adopting double standards on irrigation projects and writing letters to the Centre and filing cases in the Supreme Court to stall them, he said. Despite the obstacles, the TRS government would complete the projects with required design change to irrigate one crore acres, he added.
