Warangal: The Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) has expedited the works related to Telangana protagonist K Jayashankar’s memorial at Ekasila Park in Hanamkonda.

The Mayor, N Narender, has issued directions to the corporations officials in this connection. He inspected the newly installed statue of Jayashankar at Ekasila Park along with the officials and the sculptor Rajkumar Wadiyar, engineer Prabhakar Rao, micro artist M Ajay Kumar and others. He inspected the works going on at the park on Friday.

Developing landscape around the statue, beautification and other pending works should be completed before Jayashankar’s death anniversary which falls on June 21. The tenders for ‘Jayashankar Smrutivanam’ would be called soon, he said.

The Mayor, addressing a coordination committee meeting with corporators and officials on Friday, said a ‘clean and green’ drive would be launched on Saturday under the limits of GWMC. Works like related to sanitation, desiltation of drains, water leakages and road repairs would be taken up as part of the drive.

Seven senior officials would be appointed as special officers and 15 gazetted officers would be made in-charges to monitor the special drive. All those concerned should prepare a detailed plan of action, he noted.

He asked the officials and corporators to extend their cooperation to make Warangal a ‘Model City’ by 2019. Efforts were already being made in that direction since the general body of the corporation came into existence 92 days back.
