Irregularities mar functioning of GWMC engineering department
The seriousness of corruption and irregularities is such that the Corporation Mayor, Nannapaneni Narender is forced himself to seek action against the erring officials. He recently met the engineer-in-chief (ENC), R Dhan Singh in Hyderabad and submitted a letter to look into the allegations and initiate action.
Warangal: The functioning of Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) engineering department is marred by corruption and irregularities.
The seriousness of corruption and irregularities is such that the Corporation Mayor, Nannapaneni Narender is forced himself to seek action against the erring officials. He recently met the engineer-in-chief (ENC), R Dhan Singh in Hyderabad and submitted a letter to look into the allegations and initiate action.
It is said that the engineering officials have been duplicating works estimations as well as execution part. Several such incidents have come to fore recently following complaints by corporators and general public.
Taking the issue seriously, Mayor Narender asked the ENC to act upon the complaints. It is learnt that there has been evidence on irregularities in connection with three works under GWMC. At Kothawada, roads and drainage works are repeated, at Puppalagutta, double estimations are made for a road work and for desilting of Bondivagu nala.
Here the case of Bondivagu nala (Drain) is a strange one. The engineers of Kazipet circle, under whose limits the nala falls, have prepared estimation with Rs 6.65 lakhs.
On the other hand, the engineers of Kashibugga circle have prepared estimation with Rs 9.95 lakhs, though they are not concerned with work.
Tenders are also said to have been called for the works by both the circle offices.
We have been asking the officials to maintain transparency in their functioning in order to offer quality services to the citizens in the city. However, some of the officials are resorting to irregularities and it is not acceptable,” the Mayor told The Hans India.
The objective of the Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, is to offer zero corruption administration. As the Mayor of Warangal, I am bound to follow the objective.
That is why I have asked the ENC to act against the erring officials despite some pressures,’ he added.
After a preliminary enquiry, the ENC, Dhan Singh had on Saturday night issued orders keeping the services of the GWMC executive engineer A Siva Kumar, deputy executive engineer P Kondal Rao and an assistant engineer A Sarangam under suspension.
The mayor has confirmed the suspension of the engineers.
In addition to this, two engineering officials from State Housing Corporation Limited on deputation to GWMC, M Prasad and JAK Swamy who also faced charges of irregularities have been surrendered back to the corporation.
Meanwhile, the GWMC authorities have also been contemplating to act against a few more engineering wing officials and review the execution of works during the past couple of years to check whether there are any discrepancies.
