Hyderabad: The city police booked cases against 17 teenagers including two minors for racing on city roads. The respondents were caught during enforcement drives against rash and negligent driving held at Jubilee Hills on Saturday night.

During a press conference at his office, Banjara Hills ACP (Traffic) Masoon Basha said the teams had credible information that some persons were planning to participate in racing near KBR Park and Jubilee Hills.

“The teenagers are passing information through WhatsApp groups and fixing a place to gather. From the fixed point, they start racing for smaller distances. Though, they are not betting money on racing, the bikers are violating the MV Act,” the ACP said, adding the teenagers had been booked under Sections 181, 130/177, 183, 184 and 189 of MV Act.

ACP Basha said two minor boys were caught during the special drive. All the respondents and their parents were counselled and warned not to indulge in racing.

Answering a query, the ACP said, “Riding the bike above the mentioned speed limit in any particular area will be considered as violation and racing. Teenagers are finding thrill in racing, but it can also kill. We want them to understand this.”
