Hyderabad: Five miscreants of a seven-member gang who robbed a businessman at Sultan Bazaar on Saturday night have been arrested by the city police on Sunday.

On Saturday night, at about 9.30 pm, one Divyesh Hadhiya of Tilak Road lodged a complaint with the police stating that some unknown persons had dashed his bike with theirs and snatched away a bag containing Rs 12 lakh from him.

During investigation, the police found that the complainant generally used to take assistance of Jagadish Singh, a worker in shop located opposite to his shop, but Jagadish was not present at that time. Jagadish, who was in need of money, hatched a plan to rob Divyesh, said East Zone DCP Dr V Ravinder.

Accordingly, he discussed the plan with his friend, who in turn asked his friends Mallikarjun, Ameer, Raja Mishra, Habeeb and Asif to help him execute the offence. They planned for a month to rob the complainant on last Saturday (June 11), but could not execute it.

Yesterday night, they gathered in Grand Hotel at Abids and waited till Divyesh arrived. After spotting him, they (the accused) followed him on their bikes till he reached Aditya Hospital. Meanwhile, Mallikarjun crossed Divyesh and hit the vehicle and both fell down.

Immediately one of the accused Mishra also dashed Divyesh from rear and picked up an argument. Finding it as the right time, Mallikarjun fled with the Divyesh’s bike and cash bag,” said the DCP.

Then another accused Ashish picked Mallikarjun’s bike and fled and the others helped Mishra to flee from the place. They then went to Mallikarjun’s house at Balapur and at 10 pm, Jagadhish reached the spot and they shared the booty.

On credible information, the special teams of Sultan Bazaar and Task Force proceeded to Balapur and apprehended five persons, but Mallikarjun and Asif managed to escape, the DCP said adding that the teams could recover Rs 10.7 lakh and the remaining amount had to be recovered from the absconding accused.
