It appears that the aim of the police is to weaken the position and curtail the Maoist sub-fronts at village level in a bid to demoralise them. Apart from this, the move is certainly help the police in gaining ground in the Maoist insurgency areas.
Adilabad: Reaching out to the outlawed Maoists through their families back in the villages they belonged to, appears to be the strategy of Telangana police at the moment. The Adilabad police are on a mission mode to convince the families of Maoists with gifts and promising all possible assistance if they persuade their Maoist kin to surrender and join the mainstream.
It appears that the aim of the police is to weaken the position and curtail the Maoist sub-fronts at village level in a bid to demoralise them. Apart from this, the move is certainly help the police in gaining ground in the Maoist insurgency areas.
Albeit the strategy of appeasing relatives of the Maoists is not a new initiative, but the Superintendent of Police Vikram Jeet Duggal has his inimitable way of reaching out the Adivasis with his initiative ‘Jana Mytri’, a mass contact programme to help the tribal communities in addressing their grievances, to convince the families of the Maoists.
Besides arranging medical camps and Gram Sabhas in the interior parts of the district, the SP has been trying to establish rapport between the villagers and the police. The police seemingly appeared buoyant after their efforts yielded results following a rally organised by the people of Gudem village under Bejjur mandal in protest against the Maoist activities in their
region.
A few days ago, Duggal met Kova Laxmi, sister of senior Maoist leader Atram Shobhan alias Charles, of Rompelli village. Giving clothes and fruits to her, Duggal urged her to convince Shobhan to join main stream of life. Eventually a week after police boss’ effort, Shobhan has lost his life in an encounter with the police in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra.
In a gesture, the SP has made arrangements to ferry Shobhan’s body to Rompelli facilitating the villagers to conduct last rites of the Maoist on Tuesday.
Continuing his efforts, Duggal on Wednesday met Mylarapu Seetharamulu at Pochara village under Boath mandal and urged him to persuade his brother and senior Maoist Adellu alias Bhaskar to lay down his arms.
Assuring safety and security of life to surrendered Maoists, Duggal said: “Besides other benefits provided by the government, Adellu can lead a normal life with the reward of Rs 12 lakh, which he carries on his head.”
