Sircilla (Karimnagar): Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao said that the Opposition parties are trying to play spoilsport and have become major obstacles for the development of Telangana.

Participating in the swearing-in ceremony of the new committee of Siricilla Agricultural Market Yard here on Thursday, he claimed credit for the TRS government for introducing reservations for women and depressed classes.

Criticising the Congress and Telugu Desam for trying to politicise on every issue, he dwelt at length on the issues faced by the government on the irrigation front.

“Displacement of farmers is not a new phenomenon. It’s been happening for a long time whenever a new project is conceived. Even Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s ancestors suffered displacement due to irrigation projects.

They had to move to Chintamadaka in Medak from Karimnagar district,” KTR said, questioning the detractors is there any way to construct projects without submergence of land.

He said the government has been taking care of farmers by planning projects in such a way that submergence area is minimal.

Talking on the ongoing tussle between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over water sharing in Godavari and Krishna rivers, KTR said that their government will fight to utilise its rightful share of water in both rivers.

Addressing the newly-sworn in committee members of the agriculture market yard, KTR said that the onus is on them to extend all their support to the farming community.

They were told to reach out farmers in utilising the subsidies provided by the government for seed and fertilisers. He said that the government is going to construct warehouses at an estimated cost of Rs 1,000 crore in the State for the benefit of farmers.
