​Hyderabad: The Congress party on Saturday organised protest demonstrations, sit-ins and road blockade and also burning of the effigy of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in the city in protest against hike in power tariff and RTC bus fares.

In Hyderabad, the Congress leaders were arrested when they attempted to lay siege to Vidyut Soudha. They were shifted to the nearest police station. The Congress leaders said the hike in power tariff and bus fares had imposed an additional burden of Rs 1,800 crore on the people.

The protest led by Ranga Reddy district Congress leaders witnessed tense moments after they attempted to lay siege to the Vidyut Soudha. Former Minister and former TPCC chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah, former Union Minister Sarve Satyanarayana, former MLA M Sudheer Reddy, Kyama Mallesh, Kuna Srisailam Goud and others took part in agitation.

When the police tried to disperse the agitators, they staged a sit-in protest on the main road at Punjagutta. Later speaking to media persons, the Congress leaders accused the TRS of betraying the people after coming to power on the promise of ushering in “Bangaru Telangana.”

They said the protests would continue till the government withdrew the decision. The arrested leaders were shifted to Goshamahal police station. The leaders of Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee and youth congress held rasta roko at Nampally X roads.

Former MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, TPCC vice president Mallu Ravi, former Minister D Sridhar Babu, general secretary B Kishan and others took part in the demonstration. Speaking on the occasion, Anjan Kumar Yadav accused the government of pushing the State to brink of bankruptcy.

While imposing burden on the poor, KCR was helping contractors mint money. The government had added to the woes of the people who were already reeling under the impact of rising prices.

Meanwhile, scores of YSRCP activists staged a demostration at RTC Crossroads protesting against hike in power tariff on bus fares. Traffic on the bustling road came to a standstill for a brief period.
