POLLUTION perils
- The Minister for Industries says it would be easy to move the industries to periphery instead of retrofitting them with anti-pollutant devices

New Delhi: K T Rama Rao, Minister for IT, Industries and Municipal Administration, here on Monday said the present industrial hubs in and around Hyderabad, like Patancheru, R C Puram, Kattedan and Jeedimetla, would be shifted out of the city in a time-bound manner "without exception.”
Referring to the challenge ahead in doing so, KTR said “too much of pollution is worrying the government and it would continue counselling the industrialists in this regard. Instead of retrofitting these industries with anti-pollutant devices at the existing areas, moving them out to the periphery which will have developed facilities would be easier and less time-consuming," he added.
Speaking to the media here on Monday, KTR said no exemption would be given to anyone in this regard and "all of them have to fall in line." The State government was also planning to build a regional ring road to make way for unhindered traffic and to ease traffic woes of the fast growing megapolis of Hyderabad.
However, it was also planning to go in for land acquisition which would be done by the government directly to the greater benefit of farmers. He criticised the Opposition, particularly, the TDP and the Congress leadership for protesting against development projects in the State wondering why were they opposed to higher compensation to the farmers in case of irrigation projects.
Similarly, the government was interested in developing Hyderabad into a world-class city by converging works and departments effectively, he added. As soon as the number of circles of GHMC was increased to 30 from the present 26, the government would enforce uniformity in approach to the civic problems systematically.
