Hyderabad: Thanks to the digital revolution that is sweeping the world and India in particular, data analysts are now the most sought after professionals by big corporations as well as startups. Careers that one has never heard of now are becoming common place.

With petabytes of data floating around, big corporations need this data to become visible to take decisions.India is ranked high among the big data services and Hyderabad is becoming as a sought after destination.

The Telangana government has also proposed to set up a data analyst park in Hyderabad at Gachibowli. Accenture, Deloitte, IBM Global Services and many other biggies are taking up big data projects for clients and the number as well as the demand is growing by the day.

Though none of the Indian universities presently offer a comprehensive course in data analytics, the University of North Carolina offers a Masters in Data Analytics Information Technology.

Vikas, a student from the University of North Carolina says, “Data is the big thing and there is a data revolution happening if one may say so.

Every company whether big or small needs to make sense of the data to improve business and prepare a strategy.” Data analytics is becoming crucial as big corporations need to transform data into relevant information that helps in business promotion.

The humungous data when put in perspective turns into a goldmine of opportunity and data analysts are no doubt paid top salaries, even more than software engineers, says an official of IT trade body Nasscom.

According to rough estimates there are close to a lakh analysts but the demand is growing exponentially and there would be a severe crunch say analysts. The demand is felt in Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

C T Shankar, founder, Digital Marketing School, says, “The data analytics sector is going to boom and by 2025 it is expected to touch $16 billion industry and India there is a need for capacity building.”

About 10 per cent of the data analytics firms are in Hyderabad and the number is bound to grow say experts with the Telangana government keen on starting a centre exclusively for data analytics.

Thomas H Devenport, cofounder of International Institute for Analytics in Harvard Business Review pointed out that an organisation stores multiple petabytes of data that is most critical to business resides in forms other than rows and columns of numbers and involve a mashup, you have a big data opportunity.” This is the big opportunity that all major corporations from airlines to retail are looking to use.

Another profession that is gaining popularity is digital marketing. In the last two years, more than 200 startups came up in the city and a majority of them went in for digital marketing. With web analytics gaining ground, several training centres have sprung up in the city offering 30-45 days digital marketing courses.

If data analysts are most sought after by big corporations and Fortune 500 companies for their business strategy for their B2B (business-to-business) or B2C (business-to-consumer), web analysts are becoming an inseparable part of the startup and retail space,” says Rajat Jain, founder, shootorder.

comCentre confident As there are elections in Punjab, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh scheduled for next year, there is a possibility that these States could stand to gain either in the promotion of Ministers to the Cabinet rank or in seeing new faces from these States, it is said.
