Following continuous rains for the past three days, rivulets in agency villages were overflowing, disrupting normal life and cutting offing villages from outside world. Duo to the rains vast extents of agricultural fields left inundated and roads were damaged as a result of which vehicular flow was obstructed. 

Warangal: Following continuous rains for the past three days, rivulets in agency villages were overflowing, disrupting normal life and cutting offing villages from outside world. Duo to the rains vast extents of agricultural fields left inundated and roads were damaged as a result of which vehicular flow was obstructed.

The normal rainfall for June month was 137.2 mm while the district received 244.7 mm rainfall from June 1 to 30 with 13 rainy days.
During the past 24 hours, all the 51 mandals in Warangal district received rain while 46 mandals received rain more than 20 mm and the district average was 64.5 mm during the period. Mulug Ghanpur mandal received highest rainfall of 176.6 mm.

Regonda, Mogullapalle, Chityal, Venkatapur, Govindaraopet, Tadwai, Kesamudram and Gudur mandals received rainfall above 100 mm. The Moranchavagu between Bhupalpalli and Mulug Ghanpur, Jeedivagu in Eturunagaram, Uravagu in Venkatapur, Musalammavagu in Mangapet, Katheravagu in Kothaguda, and Dayyalavagu in Govindaraopet mandal were overflowing.

As a result, vehicular movement was affected on many roads. A diversion road on NH 163 near Tadwai, where a high level bridge was under construction, was washed away due to floods.

  • Rivulets in agency villages overflowing

The officials were diverting the vehicles bound to Eturunagaram via Medaram. Ramannagudem, Ramnagar, Lambadi Thanda in Eturunagaram and Berelli, Rangapur, Narsapur, Koushettyvai villages were cut off due to overflowing streams. Similarly traffic between Parkal and Bhupalpalli and movement of people between Laxmidevarapeta and Veerlapalli was also affected.

Water entered into houses at Rajupet, Ramnagar and others in Mangapet mandal. Coal production at opencast mines of SSCL at Bhupalpalli was disrupted as mines were inundated with rain waters.Meanwhile, Laknavaram Lake in Govindaraopet received huge inflows due to rains and water level, which was at rock bottom level a week ago, has risen to around 21 feet on Thursday. The water level at Gundlavagu project stood at around 20 feet.

Similarly water level at Pakhal Lake in Khanapur mandal reached around 9 feet while Bhimunipadam falls at Kommalavancha in Gudur mandal turned lively. According to weather forecast, the district was likely to receive heavy to moderate rains for the next two days.

At the district headquarters, many low lying areas like NTR Nagar, MH Nagar and others were flooded with rain waters causing severe difficulty to local residents to move out of their homes. The GWMC mayor, Nannapuneni Narender, has directed the officials to clear the nalas prevent water stagnation in the colonies.
