Hyderabad: Stating that his party supports the stand taken by advocates and judges in their fight for a separate High Court, Telangana BJP on Thursday advised Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to take up dharna in Amaravati instead of New Delhi to hasten the bifurcation of the
High Court.

Addressing a press conference here, BJP president K Laxman on Thursday alleged that the agitation by advocates and judges was being given a political colour by the ruling parties of the two Telugu-speaking States. “The Chief Minister wants to take up a dharna in New Delhi.

We don’t have any objection for his dharna if it is going to benefit the advocates, but it will be better if KCR takes up the dharna in Amaravati,” said Laxman. Both the Chief Ministers should resolve the issue of bifurcation of High Court by consulting each other, said Laxman alleging that the duo was responsible for the current situation.

Laxman said, “Though the two Chief Ministers exchange invitations and pleasantries, they don’t talk about the contentious issue of bifurcation of High Court.” He said that the Centre had nothing to do with the bifurcation as per the judgment of High Court, following a PIL filed by petitioner
Dhan Gopal.

“As far as the Government of India is concerned, it cannot intervene in the issue by the virtue of High Court judgment. GoI has already sanctioned Rs 100 crore for creating infrastructure and constructing new court buildings,” he said. He recalled that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu wrote a letter to the Law Ministry on March 23, 2015 asking it to take up steps for the bifurcation of High Court.

“It has been over a year now and till now nothing has been done. Even a DPR has not been prepared,” he alleged. The BJP chief said that the demands of the agitating advocates and judges were justifiable and his party was extending unconditional support to their agitation. He demanded Governor E S L Narasimhan to summon the two Chief Ministers for a meeting. He also wanted the Governor to cancel the option facility given to lower level judges.

Expressing shock over the arrest of 11 terror suspects, party spokesperson Krishna Sagar Rao wanted the government to deal with them with an iron hand. “The IT Minister is visiting various countries for investments and if the law and order situation is not good, the whole exercise will be futile. He is promoting T-Hub, but he should ensure that the State doesn’t become a terrorist hub,” said Rao.
