Prior to releasing the water, the officials alerted people and cattle grazers through public address systems at Kandakurti, Navipeta, Nandipet, Balkonda and Sriramsagar project catchment areas in Nizamabad district  and Basara in Adilabad district.  

Nizamabad: Godavari water reached Triveni Sangamam in Ranzel mandal on Saturday with the officials lifting of 14 gates of the Babli project in Maharashtra on Friday, discharging 90,000 cusecs downstream.

Prior to releasing the water, the officials alerted people and cattle grazers through public address systems at Kandakurti, Navipeta, Nandipet, Balkonda and Sriramsagar project catchment areas in Nizamabad district and Basara in Adilabad district.
The water was released under the supervision of a three- member committee comprising SRSP Superintending Engineer Satyanarayana, Executive Engineer Rama Rao and divisional engineer Jagadish.

Meanwhile, water level in Sriramsagar Project reached 1091 feet with incessant rains in the upper reaches and also due to release of Godavari water from the Bhabli project.

The water level in the reservoir measured 1046 feet last year. The jubilant people and farmers rushed to Triveni Sangamam to watch the magnificent flow of the river water. The gates of Babli project were lifted on the instructions of the Supreme Court that they be remained opened from July 1 to October 28.

The Babli project was completed in 2013. The inter-state water sharing problem was resolved by the Central Water Commission on the directive of the Supreme Court. The water was released from Babli project as per the accord reached between the States of Telangana and Maharashtra.
