Hyderabad: Unhappy over the centre not replying to his recent letter addressed to Union Home Ministry on the issue of bifurcation of High Court, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Saturday sought the intervention of Governor E S L Narasimhan.

The Chief Minister, who met Narasimhan at Raj Bhavan has apprised him of the situation and urged him to help solve the issue of bifurcation of the High Court and proportionate representation of Telangana judges in the judicature.

Highlights:

  • Accuses AP CM Chandrababu Naidu of adopting delaying tactics
  • Governor's intervention sought after Union Law Minister disowned the role of Centre
  • The protest by advocates continues unabated

The meeting assumes significance as KCR’s AP counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu, who responded to the issue in New Delhi after his China tour. KCR is learnt to have complained against Naidu for adopting delaying tactics on the High Court bifurcation and throwing the ball into the Centre’s court saying that they have already allotted land in Amaravati – the capital city area in Andhra Pradesh.

Though Telangana government had offered to share the premises of the existing High Court and showed the required land for construction of new HC, the AP government did not respond and deliberately dragged on the issue for two years, KCR is understood to have informed the Governor.

They shared the contentious issue of Acting Chief Justice Dilip B Bhosale asking the lawyers to end strike and resume duties and warned of serious consequences. According to the information, KCR appealed to the Governor to take up the issue with the Centre for an immediate solution though Union Law Minister Sadananda Gowda had recently disowned any role of the Centre in the division of High Court.

The Governor learnt to have assured KCR that he would take up the issue with the Centre as he had already held separate meetings with Acting CJ Bhosale and Telangana Advocate-General K Ramakrishna Reddy on the issue.

It is likely that the Governor is to make a visit to the national capital if the situation so warrants. On the other hand, the protests by Telangana advocates for bifurcation of High Court and for justice in appointment of judicial officials, including that of judges continue unabated.
