Khammam: The State government will eventually pay the price for its highhandedness on Podu cultivators, the Communist Party of India district council secretary Bagam Hemanth Rao predicted.

Addressing a joint meeting of the frontal organisations of the party here on Saturday, he criticised the government for creating terror by booking cases against Podu farmers in Paloncha.

“In the name of Haritha Haram, the government is trying to displace the tribal communities, who have been practicing Podu for decades, from their natural habitats,” Rao said.

On the one hand, the ministers say that administration will not disturb the Podu cultivators; on the other hand they exert pressure on officials, Rao said, questioning the double standards of the rulers.

Criticising the government for restricting the supplies of essential commodities to poor, Rao said only rice is being supplied through the public distribution system (PDS).

The government, which burdened the common man with unreasonable hike in power and RTC fares, has forgotten the wellbeing of the poor and downtrodden by throttling the welfare schemes,” Rao said.

He predicted that government will face the wrath of the people if it continues with its anti-people’s policies. He also threatened to launch agitations against the government if it fails to address the issues faced by the people.

Rao said that besides focusing on strengthening the party’s base in the district, they will also organise political training classes to their cadres in this month.Senior leaders Yenugu Gandhi, Md Salam and BG Clement were among others present.
